Is Scar Correction Possible?

Surgery to repair or lessen the appearance of scars is known as scar revision or Skin correction. Cosmetic technology today has made the scar correction process easier and time-friendly.

This post will cover some fascinating scar correction treatments that may help you recover your skin faster and feasibly. Following are a few Scar Correction treatments:

#1 Skin Grafting

Skin grafting is transplanting a thin layer of skin from another region of the body to a wounded location. A full thickness of skin, fat, nerves, blood arteries, and muscle is moved from a healthy body region to the wounded spot during skin flap surgery.

#2 Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion includes using a specific wire brush called a burr or fraise to remove the top layers of the skin. This place regenerates new skin. Dermabrasion can smooth out wrinkles and soften the skin’s surface.

#3 Z-Plasty

Large traumas (such as burns) can result in losing a significant amount of skin and the formation of hypertrophic scars. Muscles, joints, and tendons can all be restricted by these scars (contracture). Extra scar tissue is removed during surgery. A series of minor cuts (incisions) on both sides of the scar site may be used to form V-shaped skin flaps (Z-plasty).

#4 Complete Elimination

The scar can be eliminated, and the new wound can be gently closed. Silicone strips are used for scar massage and pressure therapy.

#5 Laser Treatment

A laser softens the scar’s surface and encourages new collagen formation within it. The scar laser correction targets specific blood veins. The skin is frequently puffy and red for around 5 days after the laser sessions. Multiple such sessions may be needed for this treatment to work and give desired results. This is a non-surgical option and is preferred the most as an Out-patient procedure.

#6 Creams or Gels with Medicated Ingredients

Medications for the skin, such as lotions and gels, are available over-the-counter. If your scar is itchy or sensitive, antihistamine cream can help relieve the itch while also healing.

#7 Microneedling

Microneedling is a technique that involves using a roller with tiny needles to make very small holes in the top layer of your skin. This technique stimulates collagen production in your skin, which plumps it and enhances the texture of scars.

#8 Punch Excision Surgery

Punch excision is a simple treatment for getting rid of acne scars. Individual scars will be cut out with the help of multiple punches, and wounds will be closed with stitches or skin grafts by a dermatologist.

#9 Eat Healthy Food

Low levels of vitamin D or C in the body can increase scarring, and you’ll need enough high-quality protein in your diet to help your skin produce the nutrients it needs to repair.

#10 Avoid Direct Sunlight

Scarred skin is susceptible to sunlight, causing it to discolor when exposed to UV light.  After repeated exposure, skin cancer is more likely to develop. Hence avoid direct sunlight to help your scar recover sooner.

#11 Keep The Wound Moist

The wound will not dry out and become a scab if petroleum jelly or moist burn pads are applied to it.

#12 Flat Scars

The hue of flat scars is typically pink or crimson. Try using medication gels.

#13 Atrophic Scars

Chickenpox is also known as ice pick scars, and they usually appear on the face. Try using steroid injections.

#14 Contracture

When the skin tightens due to a burn, it leaves a contracture scar (contract). Z-Plasty is a good treatment here.
