Scars could be evident due to their size, shape, location, could be elevated or depressed. There are different types of scars and different way of catering to it which can only be determined by professionals.
PROCEDURE
Hypertropic scars: these develop directly at a wound site and are thick clusters of scar tissue. They are often protruded, red in colour and could be uncomfortable and may widen over time. They can be hypopigmented i.e. lighter in color or hyperpigmented i.e. darker in color.
Keloids: Often large in shape, they can be painful or itchy, and may also rumple. They are unfettered to the original wound or incision. Keloids can happen anywhere on the body, but they occur usually where there is little underlying fatty tissue, such as on the face, neck, ears, chest or shoulders.
Discoloration or surface irregularities: are subtle scars which can be cosmetically ameliorated by surgery or other treatments recommended by the doctor or surgeon. These types of scars do not impede the function or cause physical discomfort. These include acne scars as well as scars resulting from minor injury and surgical incisions occurred before.
Contractures: These scars that restrict movement profusely due to skin and underlying tissue that come together during healing. They happen when there is an enormous amount of tissue loss eg: after a burn. Contractures also can form where a wound cross a joint, hampering movement of the fingers, elbows, knees or neck.
